I haven’t come across a lot of ads in eBooks thus far but in some genres and topics, apparently it is being done. A discussion on LinkedIn highlighted an example in a technology publication. The ad was justified, and it was suggested that it was not annoying to readers, because it is very specifically targeted to their interests. I have to agree that this is a valid assumption to make. An ad that is potentially useful to a reader should not cause too much offense. A general ad that’s only loosely related to the topic of the eBook on the other hand is like spam in the middle of a publication. For our ‘New Players Guide to SWTOR‘ an ad about RAM would be spam, whereas an ad about the Razer SWTOR keyboard would be appropriate.
Do you agree?
