Nothing is more satisfying for a publisher than seeing a writer who deserves to have their work read, be published. Today, Peter Rake can proudly say that he is a published author.
Working in obscurity, it’s the classic tale of the writer honing their craft through workshopping and TAFE courses on writing; having conversations in their head between their favorite characters; writing a story and then coming back to it decades later. And then, taking the bold step of contacting a publisher, in this case MetaPlume, and being accepted. Pete’s been writing since the 1980s, and day dreaming since the 1950s. That’s a long time to be an emerging writer!
Peter Rake’s first publication is a short story, ‘Notty: Targaroo’s Disgrace Bar-fly, bludger and sneak-thief turned unlikely hero.’ As the name suggests, it’s an Australian tale about the under-dog come good. Pete said to me today, “I have picked up a bit of writing, and word usage skills over the time, not a master of the art, more rough-hand carpenter that uses an axe instead of a saw and plane.” He is far too modest; he doesn’t realise that his gift of story telling is obvious as soon as you start reading one of his pieces.
